Here at the SpitJack, we are welcoming Spring 2018 with a few changes to our breakfast and lunch menu. Of course, the old reliable will still be featured, however, after the feedback we have gathered from our guest, we have decided to add a few varieties to suit more taste buds.

The breakfast menu now has the option of the full jack and the mini jack. Pretty much the hearty breakfast you want to get ready for the day ahead. We now offer a tea of coffee included in the price. The veggie, which is our tasty vegetarian twist on of an eggs benedict is available to order on the baked sweetcorn cake or for those who like to keep breakfast simple we offer brown toast.

We have introduced French toast on our menu, why not add some of our rotisserie bacon with that, top with maple syrup, the perfect combination. After our successful Pancake Tuesday (which we boldly extended for an extra three days), we found that our breakfast menu just could not be without the home-made buttermilk pancakes with white and milk chocolate chips, biscuit crumble, marshmallows, Chantilly cream and chocolate sauce. This new addition is a heavenly option for our spring menu those who want to indulge in the good things in life.

This brings us onto our lunch menu, we are now offering a two-course menu for €14, which is now available every day. We offer our West Cork rotisserie chicken, our porchetta and roast ham which are all sourced from Mahony’s butchers in the English Market, our house salted cod from Ballycotton Seafood stall also makes an appearance. All of these delectable main courses are served with the option of our rotisserie roast potatoes with meat cuts, French fries or mashed potatoes. The choice is simply yours!

The SpitJack Breakfast Mon-Sun Menu 2018When our culinary team decided to add a sirloin to our evening menu, it seemed almost unfair not to have an option of red meat for our lunchtime guest. From here, we´ve introduced the rotisserie minute steak. This is a thinly sliced slow roast sirloin steak, with garlic butter to compliment the meat and then served with fries, this dish is a fantastic addition at a very reasonable price. Also, part of this menu is our iconic Spitack caesar salad and of course our baked goats cheese salad, locally source products, just down the road in Ardsallagha. Our €14 lunch menu includes one of our home-made desserts, created in our pastry kitchen in house.

Our brunch menu has seen as freshen up too. We have extended our gourmet sandwiches, with the key favourites like the roast pork belly sandwich and the chicken Cesar and herb stuffing sandwich, these are still available. We now also have a rotisserie chicken breast burger with cheddar cheese, an open smoked salmon sandwich, a classic beef burger served with Cashel blue cheese and finally a philly steak sandwich, served provolone cheese. All of our delicious sandwiches are served with French fries, a side salad or a cup of the soup of the day.

We are excited to launch our updated menus officially and we welcome our guests to come in and try a dish or two. Once again, thank you to all of our customers for your loyalty, support and for getting us this far on our journey!

Chicken Perfection

There really is no place else that does rotisserie chicken quiet as good as Spain. Thanks to Laura’s connection we got a chance to spend a couple of days learning how to make this classic of classics. An hour north from Barcelona on the Costa Brava we spent time in this regions most famous rotisserie restaurant. They have been doing rotisserie chickens the same way here for over 50 years and on Sundays the queue  stretches into the distance.

Their method is simple. Great quality meat, skillfully seasoned and cooked on an open wood fire. We cant wait to get cracking on bringing the finest Rotisserie chicken to the people of Cork.

The Hills are alive with the smell of Porchetta

Probably one of the greatest Rotisserie classics in the world is the Italian Porchetta. Rolled loin and belly of pork, seasoned with garlic and fresh herbs is slowed turned on the rotisserie. This is a dish that works excellent as a main course and makes amazing sandwiches.  To learn how to do the real thing we spent a few days in the beautiful hills of Tuscany. You can find Porchetta at all the farmers markets where it has been slow cooking all morning. We traveled to the little village of Greve in Chianti to discover the secret of a great Porchetta.

We are looking forward to being the first restaurant in Cork to offer this specialty.
